Superhound

Apps and files

Type part of a name. Superhound finds it.

  • Case and accents do not matter. cafe finds Café.
  • Small typing errors are fine. safri finds Safari.
  • Word starts work. vsc finds Visual Studio Code.
  • Older Mac names and Windows names work. control panel finds System Settings, and task manager finds Activity Monitor.
  • Superhound learns what you open for each search, and puts it first next time. A name you type in full stays first, unless you opened something else for that same search.

Web

  • Type a web address, such as github.com or localhost:3000. The first row opens it in your browser.
  • The last row of each search sends your text to Google. To use DuckDuckGo, Bing, Brave Search, or Kagi, choose it in Settings….
  • Superhound sends nothing itself. Your browser loads the page.

Complete as you type

Turn on Complete the top result as you type in Settings…. It is off by default. The rest of the top result’s name then appears after your text, selected. Tab or → keeps it, and any other key replaces it.

Search locations

Superhound always searches your app folders. To search your own folders, add them in Settings…. It adds no personal folder for you.

  • Changes to files appear in a few seconds. Refresh Catalog scans everything now.
  • Superhound reads names, never file contents.
  • It skips hidden items, the inside of packages, online-only files, and generated folders such as node_modules. You can turn off the generated-folder rule.
  • Removing a location never deletes files.
